Bride and groom stand a top a mountain at sunset after their wedding vows.

Well the world has changed in these past few months as we have all learned of the coronavirus otherwise known as COVID-19. It can be a scary time as people are told to stay home, our favorite bars close, and we see restaurants go to takeout only.

With the restrictions of gatherings in Oregon at the beginning of March Gov. Kate Brown we saw the first impact on spring weddings. Even when you feel you have no choice, choosing to change the wedding you may have been planning for over a year is a hard one.

One thing Photography by Cambrae pointed out in their recent blog is, that just because you might have to reschedule doesn’t change the fact you have found that special someone and you want to get married. Your plan of celebrating that love with a ceremony and reception surrounded by family and friends may have to be rescheduled, but COVID can’t stop love!

If you have found yourself in the place of having to reschedule your wedding or event, read Photography by Cambrae’s 5 simple steps to start the process.

Meet Cambrae

Cambrae is the owner and primary photographer for Photography by Cambrae. She specializes in capturing the lives of couples, starting with the proposal, engagement, or wedding. Then beyond as couples families change and grow.

About Cambrae

I am a Portland native through and through! My  love for photography rivals only my love of traveling. My interest in photography began at a young age, thanks to my Uncle and 8th grade math teacher.  After over 18 years of experience, I have mastered the art of putting my clients at ease and creating an environment for them to be present and most importantly be themselves.

I have a deep passion for not only the images I create but for the people I work with.  I truly consider it an honor to be a part of someone’s wedding day and the images we create together become reflective memories for the couple, not just snapshots in time.

Her Family

Family is a HUGE part of my life! I can’t imagine where I would be today without the love and support they have given me.

A couple years ago I got my whole family together for a portrait session at Crystal Springs Rhododendron Garden and I am so incredibly glad I did. Having this photograph of all of us just means the world to me. Even more so now that we have lost one of our family members. It a hard reminder of why the work I do is so important. Preserving not only the amazing moments we have in our lives, but preserving ourselves for generations to come.

Things Cambrae LOVES!

Abandoned Places

When I travel there is nothing I love more then seeking out abandoned places, ghosts towns, and historic graveyards. On my recent trip to Nashville I was trying to access what I thought was an abandoned prison only to find out it is still in use for administrative purposes. BUT near by I stumbled across an abandoned dog food factory! Trains used to pull in and would be loaded up from the large silos with dog food and along they went.

Bride and groom embraced in a dip while kissing at a summer sunset wedding. The beautiful blue and purple sunset behind them at The Troutdale House by the Sandy River.

Summer Sunset Wedding Photography

I love summer sunsets in Portland! A better yet are sunset weddings!

I was on the Crystal Dolphin for a wedding last night and there was a beautiful sunset and it has me so excited for the summer.

I also couldn’t help but think of this amazing sunset at Lindsay and Steven’s wedding.  Their wedding took place at The Troutdale House by the Sandy River.  We were actually all done with taking portraits for the day and were well into the reception when I ran out to my car. When I turned around I saw this amazing sunset. I ran inside and told the couple to just give me 10 minutes and they wouldn’t regret it.

And they didn’t!

This image became a large canvas for the wall in their home and the sister image to this is the front of their wedding album.

While this summer is almost booked we do have a couple dates left, contact Photography by Cambrae about booking your own sunset wedding portrait session via our website www.photographybycambrae.com or call us at (503) 706-0130.

Photos-by-cambrae-winter-weddings-001

Well it seems as though the snow has come and gone for this year, just visiting us in Portland for Christmas eve. I have never been one to long for snow but somehow compared to last year this January doesn’t feel as much like winter. It got me thinking about this beautiful winter wedding styled session I did on Mt. Hood. The lovely Shelley brought out her beautiful wedding dress so we could play in the snow, and I am so happy with the results.

Suprise 40th Birthday Party

When April’s husband Vince called to tell me he was planning a surprise 40th birthday party for her, I was so excited! Not only for her, but also to be a part of such a fun event.  The most touching part of this event was the toasts.  People took a moment to share how April had touched all of their lives.  I’ll be the first to admit I teared up.

I also decided to surprise April and add video of a few toasts to her image presentation. WATCH it here!

Fall-Outdoor-maternity-photography-session001

When I asked a dear friend of mine why she decided to wait until birth to find out the sex of her baby, she said to me “…because there are few true surprises in life” and that has always stuck with me.  So when Andrea and Stefan told me they were waiting to find out the sex of their first child, I was so excited for them knowing the true surprise they had to come.

I was lucky enough to be among the group of friends that was present for Jesse’s proposal to Sion. Like many proposals, after a day of failed attempts around the celebration of her birthday, a group of us found ourselves together in their SE Portland home.  I remember Jesse showing me the ring in his pocket and saying it was going to happen now. I myself had no idea he was planning things for that day and was so excited to see this happen. Of course she said YES and we spent the rest of the night celebrating.

Walters-Cultural Arts-Center Wedding-004

Veronica and Dale were married at the picturesque Glenn & Viola Walters Cultural Arts Center.  The building stands so strong and made of stone, yet surrounded by beautiful delicate flowers.  But the true gem of this venue is in the architecture of the interior ceiling.  It made a grand backdrop for the coming together of these two families.

Portland-Spirit-Wedding

A small intimate wedding with just close friends and family aboard the Portland Spirit.  We all enjoyed being carried along the Willamette River and seeing the sites while watching these two say “I do”. We were all excited to help them celebrate the beginning of this new chapter in their lives.

After the wedding we all had a little fun at the front of the boat with the captain. He let Bree-Lyn and Forest take over stirring the boat. Bree-Lyn couldn’t help but giggle as we talked Forest into a photo in the captains hat.

  Portland Wedding

I first met Daine oh so many years ago not long after graduating high school. He worked with a dear friend of mine and was often one of the singles at group parties…..until one day he walked in the door with Linda. Not only was she beautiful, but smart, and you could see by the way Daine looked at her, this girl was something special.

Over the years our little group has drifted a bit as people got married, changed jobs and had kids. So when an email popped into my inbox from the two of them asking about wedding photography I could not have been more exited! Not only for the two of them, but also for how honored I felt that they thought of me to be a part of this special day in their lives.  And a truly special day it was.

We all met ahead of the ceremony at Laurelhurst Park for the first look and some bridal party portraits. When I saw Daine’s reaction to seeing her for the first time, it melted my heart.

Sexy-Beach-Wedding-Photos-Rockaway-Beach 7

I was so proud of Courtney and Nick for doing this beautiful sexy beach session.  They are married, first time parents, and still a young couple in love.

Sessions like these are a great way for couples to connect, and have something that is just about them and just for them.  This adventurous couple, climbed giant piles of beach wood, braved the ocean water, and bared a little of their hearts to create this images.

James and Kristine celebrate their late summer wedding at McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse.

James and Kristine created such fun art deco details for their wedding at McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse.  All the details from the table settings, to music, to cake really allowed their guests to get into the 20’s feel. The roadhouse also lent itself perfectly with McMenamins trade mark pastel decor and funky paintings. A good time was had by all at this intimate affair.

longview-community-church-001-2

The beautiful Longview Community Church stood proud and picturesque at this wedding on a hot day this summer.

I couldn’t help but smile all day watching these two prepare to get married. They were so obviously in love. They would steal glances and kisses when they thought no one was watching.

It is these types of moments I will be thinking about over the winter as I excitedly await all the fun weddings to come in 2017.

Kennedy School Wedding details, including shoes, jewelry, and the dress

Many couples work so hard on all of the details for their wedding. I love taking the time to capture these during the wedding day.  It’s not only for the couples, but they also help bring to life the story of the day for people who couldn’t be there.  Details for brides might include jewelry, garter, and shoes, while grooms may have cuff links. crazy socks, or a special watch.  Not to mention all the details put into decorations, gifts, and more.

The bride and groom embrace for a quite moment while looking into the woods.

Just a quite moment between these two after saying I do.

This rental home was such a lucky find, spacious large home, winding wood desks, and beautiful outdoor space looking into the woods. It was the perfect setting for Stacie and Choncy to hold their intimate wedding.

I am based in Portland but find myself traveling throughout Oregon and when I’m lucky out of state or country. If you are looking for a photographer for your wedding, see Photographybycambrae.com for pricing and contact information.

Portland-waterfront-proposal

After a romantic early Valentine’s day dinner at Departure, Travis walked his bride to be, Riann, along the waterfront. Little did she know the photographer they just passed “taking pictures of the bridge” was about to become a part of her proposal story.   As soon as I saw Travis go down on one knee I turned my camera towards them and was able to capture some priceless expressions. I moment none of us will soon forget.

After the ring was on her finger, and she knew I was in on it, we spent some more time walking around together taking pictures by the Hawthorne Bridge and the World Trade Center Portland.

portland-mcmenamins-cornelius-roadhouse-wedding-2

When guests arrived for this 10th anniversary party at McMenamins Cornelius Pass Roadhouse they were greeted at the door by a surprise wedding certificate.  Nick & Kelley, the couple who said they would never get married, surprised family and friends by getting hitched in a small private ceremony just moments before the party started. Guests could not be happier for this long time, life lovin’ couple. And to top if off this location was where they met 10 years ago, both working in the kitchen for McMenamins.

As their love was written in the stars, their party had a fun celestial theme including, constellation cards on tables, a moon photo booth, and fortune tellers.

I am so excited to be the newest member of Photographers of Portland, being surrounded by so many other great creative photographers is a joy.

Every time I look at this picture of Stacey & Choncy I can’t help but smile, their love and affection for each other is so obvious in this sweet simple image taken at Portland’s Laurelhurst Park. We really lucked out when we went as the day ended up being beautiful and even a bit sunny.  I look forward to sharing images from their wedding soon.
